JOYS & CONCERNS SEPTEMBER 7, 2010

JOYS:

Arlene Samuelson reports PRAISE that Jaylika (who was hit by a car) is out of coma & in rehab, but concerns about memory issues & legs have temporary paralysis.

Pat & Joe Kobiela and family are joyful that they celebrated Nancy Mertz’s 80th birthday on 9/4.

The Jansen family thanks the congregation for their support & guidance for son Kevin as he enters Ohio Northern this past weekend.

Barb & Rich Gibson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 3rd.

Rita Collins says that their grandson Henry & sister & brother-in-law were here to help celebrate Charlie’s birthday on 9/5.

Rod Warner is joyful that daughter Kayleigh turned 18 this week.  Thanks to God for the blessing of children.

Betsy Rodecap-Kurtz is rejoicing that her Mom, Pat Rodecap is HOME!!! And Daniel was home for a short visit, too. Also, I wanted to share with the church that Dave and I are the ecstatic grandparents of our 4th grandchild.  Logan Patrick Kurtz was born 9-1-10 to Drew and Katie in Chicago.  Logan was welcomed home by his big sister Reyna.  Everyone is healthy and strong.  Thank you, Lord! 

Fannie Pepple is joyful that her sister is home from the hospital.

CONCERNS:

Please pray for the family of Dustin Gamble.

Gary & Sheryl Thrush ask prayers for Janet Getts who recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Please pray for Loyal Bowerman who is very ill.

Kim Burch asks prayers for nephews (brothers Brian & Daniel) who were in a serious car accident.  Prayers are needed especially for Daniel in the hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

Wilma Pfierman asks prayer for her son, Jack who has some health concerns.

Jean Wehr asks prayers for Hanna Schrock, elementary student @ Waterloo who is currently @ Riley with high fever and they are unsure of cause. Testing is ongoing.

Jean Wehr also wishes prayers for her mother, Mary Brown who has health concerns.

  • Don’t forget to mark your calendar for a “Big Gift” Bake Sale on Sunday Sept 12. The proceeds from the Bake Sale will be donated to the Boomerang Backpack program at DeKalb Central Schools. The Boomerang Backpack program helps feed hungry children over the weekend when school lunches are not available. A special bonus is that Ruth Walters famous salsa will be available at the bake sale along with delicious baked goods. Be sure to support the bake sale to feed hungry children in our community!

 

  • Sunday Night Women’s Bible Study to begin Sunday, September 19 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.   This group is open to women looking for Bible study and fellowship.  We will be continuing a study by Beth Moore on Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit and it is not necessary to have completed the first part.   Typically, we meet for 3 weeks at the church, then on the 4th Sunday we go out for dinner or desert and fellowship.  Please contact Sue Jansen (925-0787) for more information and to let her know you need materials or feel free to just show up the first night.  We will be meeting in the Church library.   Please feel free to join us.   All are welcome! 

 

  • Join us in the Activity Room Sunday, September 12 – Sunday, October 17 during the Sunday School hour for “Sealed” a topical class on the Holy Spirit spring boarding from the September sermon series.  In this 6-week study, learners discover six major roles of the Holy Spirit: holiness, love, truth, life, wisdom, revelation, and glory.  Come join us as we explore the mystery of the Holy Spirit.  Open to adults of all ages.

 

  • Don’t forget to sign up to run, walk, or volunteer at the School of Early Learning’s Daisy 5K Run/Walk on Saturday September 18. Contact Preschool director Kelly Oswalt (koswalt@auburnfirstunited.com or 925.2570) for more information or mark your interest on the Connections form at the bottom of your bulletin.

 

  • The School of Early Learning is hosting a Hospitality Days for preschool families and needs your help.  Friendly volunteers are needed to greet and give refreshments on Sept. 15-17.  Hospitality Day is a great way to meet new families and to give information about our church.  If you are interested, please call or email Kelly Oswalt at 925-2570 or koswalt@auburnfirstunited.com or mark your interest on the Connections form at the bottom of your bulletin.

 YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL

  • Middle School room 107

          Reverb focuses on the mission of God in the world. God has a mission for all mankind and for each person. This study educates students about God’s overarching plan as well as His individual plan for each person to impact the world around him.  From His motivating love to His call on our lives, we are meant to impact those around us.

  •           High School room 113

          Linked: Christians were never meant to live out their faith alone. In this study, students learn practical applications for living in relationship with God and other people through such topics as worship, justice, grace, and the future.

Youth Group

  • Middle School Youth Group meets Wednesday evenings from 6 – 7:15pm. Meet in the Fellowship Hall for the meal together with activities following.
  • Senior High Youth Group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9pm in the Activity Room.

REMINDER:

JOYS:

Marilyn Minard sends a big thank you to everyone for the lovely birthday card! It was beautiful and she appreciates all the thoughts!  Marilyn has been in rehabilitation for quite a while and celebrates that she will be able to move back home to Auburn very soon!

Josh & Janet Hammer celebrate Dominik turning 4 this week.  2 Years ago they thought they were going to lose him to a seizure, but GOD IS GOOD!

Bob & Kathy Hardy welcomed another grandchild, Alexis Hardy on 8/27. Praise God.

Rick & Vicki James are proud grandparents of Mason Joseph Foote born on 8/19. He joins big brother Jackson with parents Stephanie & Jared.

Bernie & Jamie Sukala celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary 8/26.

Bob & Sharon Zimmerman celebrated their 46th anniversary 8/29.

CONCERNS:

Jan Winkler Hewitt asks for prayers  for Sarah and Chadd Kelley.  Chadd had an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) by his brain stem Wednesday August 11, 2010 at approximately 11am.   • Carwash

Come support the youth as they raise money at a carwash on Saturday, September 4th from 1-4 PM at Ben Davis.  All proceeds benefit Royal Family Kids’ Camp which is sponsored by Epworth Forest and meets the needs of abused and neglected children.  Hope to see you and your dirty cars there!

  • Sealed

      We are still looking for information about our college students. If you haven’t given us the current address for your student for this year, please contact the church office with their address. We want to keep in contact with them! AND don’t forget that you can adopt one (or more!) college students for this school year. Mark your connections form to get more information.

  • Daisy 5K Run/Walk

JOYS & CONCERNS AUGUST 23, 2010

JOYS:

Kelly Ellis is joyful that her nephew Casey got off to college, but a concern because he is so nervous!

Jacob Samuelson’s dad turned 40 on 8/21. Go Big Daddy!!!

Greg Littlejohn says he is feeling much better – doing well.  Thanks to everyone for the prayers & concerns & visits.

Galen Anspaugh celebrated his ‘double nickel” birthday on 8/21.

CONCERNS:

Please pray for Rev. Charlie Cook and family. His wife Lee was killed in a traffic accident in Florida on August 8. They served at First Church in 1993.

By now most of you know that I am leaving.  I need some help to make the transition run smoothly.  I am in need of some Sunday school teachers.  I have 2 that are going to share the Kindergarten-2nd grade class but still need people to lead the Preschool class and the 3rd – 5th grade class.  The curriculum is very easy to follow and everything will be laid out for you.  If you are willing to help please contact Tammy Althouse @ talthouse@dekalb.k12.in.us or at 927-3744.  Thanks for your help!There will be only one worship service on September 5 at 9:30am.
